Evidence of the burning couch

A couple of days ago I mentioned we saw a burning couch on the side of the freeway, during rush hour. Today I got a picture of the burned out carcass, still sitting on the side of the highway.

The whole time we have been here, we have been watching the painting of a mural on a freeway wall. It is being done by a couple of Art schools and is very nicely done. I took several pictures that I will put on Picassa, but here is one to grab your interest.

And finally, here is another video taken from a bridge over the freeway we take every day to get to and from the client sight. Traffic is moving along very quickly in this one. Watch the motorcycle guys...

  1. Let's play split that lane. They do a good job of it. I notice they have an abundance of compact cars, as opposed to what is driven in the Lone Star state.

There is proposed legislation here in TX for lane splitting. Who knows if it will pass. Even if it does, it will take drivers a while to stop trying to kill motorcyclists.

  2. The thing about the drivers here is they are very aware of the motos and give them space - an inch or two. The lane splitters are just part of life here and everyone respects one another. The chaos of driving is amazing to watch: people yield and let others in! There are so many places where lanes converge and there are tons of vehicles trying to go from 4 lanes to 3 and it just flows smoothly. The motos are weaving in and out, the cars yield to them and other cars. Horn honking is polite (just little short toots) - to let folks know you are back there, not very much in anger. Even if lane splitting becomes legal in places within the US outside of CA, I would never do it with the mentality and moto-blindness of US drivers. There is no road rage here that I have witnessed.

And you are right, 95% of the vehicles here are compacts. Too many people trying to get around in a very crowded place.
